The Ghostlight Society, the hip, young supporters of the Capitol Center for the Arts, will host a benefit party celebrating The Spirit of Mardi Gras at the Capitol Center for the Arts on Feb. 15. Featuring the Boogaloo Swamis, a Cajun/Zydeco band from Boston, the party promises to be a foot-stomping, hip wiggling, hooting and hollering good time. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the band will take the stage at 8 p.m. in the Spotlight Café, which has plenty of room for dancing.
The event will also feature a Cajun cook-off with some of New Hampshire’s most notable chefs, plus lighter fare and a cash bar. Proceeds from the event, including the sale of Mardi Gras masks and beads, will benefit the Capitol Center for the Arts. Attendees can document their fun at a photo booth or have their fortune told at the event’s fortune teller booth. Proceeds from both attractions also benefit the Capitol Center.
Called “the best New Orleans music you’ll find outside the bayous” the Boogaloo Swamis have a reputation for a rollicking good time as one of Boston’s top five party bands. The Boston-based band has been playing their unique blend of Cajun, Zydeco and New Orleans-influenced rhythm and blues for more than 20 years. They have five albums and four Boston Music Awards for outstanding “World Music Act” to their credit.
Tickets for the event are $25 each or $20 for a table of eight. Join all the party people Feb. 15 for New Hampshire’s most fantastic Mardi Gras celebration.
