The Young Adult Librarians of New Hampshire are pleased to announce the 2013 Teen Video Challenge, which is part of a national competition that asks teens to create 30- to 90-second public service announcements that encourage both reading and using public libraries throughout the summer. This year’s theme is “Beneath the Surface.”
Teens can incorporate underground, underwater and undercover motifs – as well as others – into their “Beneath the Surface” projects. Videos must promote the idea of using public libraries and reading, be designed for use at any library and be appropriate for viewing by audiences of all ages.
Entries will be judged on creativity, message clarity and relevance, motivation and inspiration, and overall impact. Filmmakers must be 13 to 18 years old and legal residents of New Hampshire. They may work on their own or as a team; each participant or group may submit one video per entry.
New Hampshire’s top entry will be awarded $275, and the winner’s local public library will receive prizes worth $125. Each participating state’s winning video will join other state winners as official national Collaborative Summer Library Program 2013 Teen Video Challenge champions and will be used to promote summer reading across the United States.
All music and artwork used in the videos must be created by the entrant or be in the public domain and must be specified as such on the entry form. Anyone appearing in a video must sign a model release form.
The deadline to enter is Feb. 4.
