Autumn at the Concord Family YMCA features longtime favorite programming, from indoor cycling to basketball, and from swimming to Zumba. Popular exercise offerings are expanding, however, to include a bevy of new options. These programs are available free of charge to YMCA members, and at a reasonable rate for nonmembers.
New options include Masala Bhangra, PiYo, Plyo Sculpt, Core + More, Yoga for Seniors, Advanced Yoga, and several others.
“Masala” means spicy in Hindi, and “Bhangra” is a folk dance from northern India. The Masala Bhangra class offers an exciting dance fitness blend of high-energy bhangra beats, hot Bollywood style, and the most fun you've ever had in a workout. No dance experience is required, and all fitness levels are welcome.
PiYo is a perfect blend of pilates and yoga that increases flexibility, burns calories, builds muscle, and concludes with relaxation. Plyo Sculpt introduces a fast paced, high energy, full body workout using a combination of plyometrics and free weights to accomplish shaping and toning. If your muscles feel confused, you're on the right track.
The Core + More program features pilates and yoga exercises that are adapted to all fitness levels, from beginner through advanced. Core + More improves balance, strength, and flexibility while reducing stress.
Yoga for Seniors is a class specially designed to enhance breathing, increase strength and flexibility, and improve balance through a variety of standing, sitting, and floor yoga postures. Props, modifications, and personal guidance are used to allow both participation and challenge for participants at any level of fitness or mobility.
For yogis with a high level of fitness and at least one year of yoga practice, the Concord Family YMCA is introducing Advanced Yoga. This program includes sun salutations, standing poses, arm balances, and inversions.
