Each month, the Concord Young Professionals Network spotlights one of its up-and-comers. This month, we catch up with Jeremy Woodward.
How old are you? What town do you live in? Where do you work?
I'm 34 years old and live in Concord. Currently, I own Jeremy's Bootcamp and Ironheart Jeremy Events.
How did you find out about CYPN and how has it benefited your business or you personally?
I was invited by Jessica Fogg to a CYPN event. I would say that the networking both professionally and personally is tremendous and is a powerful tool.
Where's your favorite place to go in Concord?
There are so many places in Concord that I enjoy visiting. One of them being downtown and spending time on the State House lawn. It's a great place to bring my girls down and run around and have fun. Plus, on a side note, someday I want to be the governor of this great state!
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work I really enjoy spending time with my wife and two girls, Elliana, who is 4 years old, and Bryn, who will be a year in November. Lately, when I'm not with my girls, you can find me swimming, biking, running and training for my next Ironman triathlon.
Favorite movie of all time?
My favorite movie of all time is The Karate Kid. I've probably seen this movie hundreds of times!
What is one of your life goals?
To inspire as many people that I can that anything can be accomplished, no matter what challenges are put in front of you.
What has been your favorite CYPN event so far?
Recently I attended a CYPN event at The Barley House. I have to say the energy was really great! To see so many of the area's young professionals in one room was pretty cool.
If you could visit any country, where would you go?
In the next five years, I want to visit Italy. I have family roots there.
Which famous person would you really like to meet?
If I could sit down and have a drink with one famous person, it would have to be Chuck Norris. As impressive as his success in film, martial arts, business and roundhouse kicks has been, through the years he has been able to change lives through his Kickstart Kids program. Over 70,000 young lives have benefited from this program that he created.
Tell us three interesting facts about yourself.
First off, I've had two open heart surgeries in the past 11 years due to heart failure. Mechanical parts in my heart keep me alive. Second, I have studied martial arts for 19 years and hold a fourth degree Black Belt. Third, I was very fortunate this year to be selected to be part of a seven-member team of heart survivors who will be competing at Ironman Arizona in November. As we train and compete over the year, we're being filmed for a documentary that will be released in the summer of 2013. So far, we've had many highs and lows with this film. You'll have to watch the film, as it brings a very real element to living with a congenital heart defect.
The Concord Young Professionals Network is a professional and personal development initiative created by the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce just over five years ago. Free events are held on the third Wednesday of every month at various Concord venues, where hundreds of young professionals of all ages can interact socially, build a network of contacts, exchange ideas and have fun.
