It's another installment of our Girl Scout of the Week, in which we profile some local Girl Scouts to find out just what being a scout is all about. This week, we've got 15-year-old Elizabeth Hall. Tell us a little about yourself, Elizabeth.
How long have you been a Girl Scout?
Since fourth grade. I moved to a new town, and my mom was a Girl Scout as a kid, so she thought it would be a great way for me to make new friends – and it was!
What are the three qualities of a good leader?
Being a good listener, because you want to be able to hear other's ideas. Caring and strong, so you are able to enforce important rules.
What community service projects have you done?
We made and donated Thanksgiving baskets to people in need. We put potatoes, canned goods, biscuits, and things like that in the baskets.
If you were president for a day, what would you do?
I would make laws to help the environment. I would also start cleaning the ocean and have factories become more eco-friendly.
Who is your role model and why?
My Nana. She's not afraid of what people think. She just does what she wants to do. She teaches me to be a strong independent woman. She tells me every day how important education is. She is always pushing me to do my best and to do what I love. She inspires me by everything she does and everything she has accomplished. I want to grow up to be like her someday.
Why do you enjoy being a Girl Scout?
I'm really good friends with all the girls in my troop. I especially like selling Girl Scout Cookies. I sold 250 cookies this year, and I have been the top seller in my troop since I began the cookie program. We get to try new things like we are doing a program next month called “Greasy Girls” where we are going to learn about cars, the mechanics of how cars work and how to change a tire.
What fun activities do you do as a Girl Scout?
We like to go on trips. We are going to Martha's Vineyard this year. We sold Girl Scout cookies so we could raise the money to go. I went to Girl Scout resident summer camp since fourth grade too. I like meeting new friends and being able to expand my horizons. I like to have new experiences and learning new stuff. We've done indoor skyping, camping, and I learned to cook with a program called “Culinary Creations” during Summer Camp.
Tell us three things about yourself that we might not know:
I play indoor soccer, I really like to sing and play the piano and I write poetry.
