The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center's Star Party takes place from 8 p.m. to midnight Aug. 11. The Perseid meteor shower is the most prominent one of the summer. Visitors will learn about Perseus and where it lies in the night sky. Discovery Center educators will explain the phenomenon of meteor showers in general and the Perseids in particular. Real meteorites will be available to look at and to touch. For your comfort, we suggest that you bring lawn chairs, blankets, a flashlight, bug repellent, and dress in layers for variable-temperature outdoor viewing.
A self-guided tour of the exhibits and family activities is available from 8-10 p.m. The theater presentation begins at 8:30, with pizza available at 9 p.m. before guests head outside for
