American Pickers: Guide to Picking
Libby Callaway, Mike Wolfe, Frank Fritz and Danielle Colby
2011, 209 pages
Nonfiction
Author Libby Callaway teams up with Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, the stars of the “American Pickers” show on the History Channel. They have written a book about the show and how to go “picking” for treasures in people's homes, barns, sheds and at yard sales and flea markets. There's a lot of humor in the book, and they meet some very interesting characters, like the Wisconsin man who hung dozens of bikes in his trees.
Mike and Frank are very thoughtful about their buys, sometimes persuading a person not to sell a family treasure if they are thinking of passing it on to their kids. There are also great tidbits of the history of the items sprinkled throughout the book. If you are interested in antiques or collectibles you'll want to check out this book. Who knows what “rusty gold” you may find? And this book will tell you how to buy that overlooked treasure.
