Video champs

New Hampshire's Young Adult Library Services Association has announced that Cody Merritt and Jonathan Olson, both of Penacook, are the New Hampshire winners of the 2012 Teen Video Challenge.

The Teen Video Challenge is a national competition that encourages teens to create 30- to 90-second public service announcements that encourage both reading and using public libraries during the summer.

This year's theme, “Own the Night,” challenged teen filmmakers to incorporate dreams, astronomy, supernatural stories and other nighttime motifs into their videos. Entries were judged on creativity, message clarity and relevance, motivation and inspiration, and overall impact.

For their hard work and creativity, Merritt and Olson will receive $275, and their associated public library, Concord Public Library, will receive $100 plus a $50 gift certificate from Upstart brand library products.

Merritt and Olson's video will join other state winners as official national Collaborative Summer Library Program 2012 Teen Video champions and will be used to promote summer reading across the United States. Twenty-three states and over one hundred teens participated in the creation of these winning videos.
