Each month, the Concord Young Professionals Network spotlights one of its up-and-comers. This month, we'd like to introduce you to Maria Crozu of Nathan Wechsler & Co.

How old are you? What town do you live in? Where do you work?

I am 30 years old, and I live in Canterbury. I am an associate at Nathan Wechsler & Co.

How did you find out about CYPN and how long have you been involved?

In my prior job, I worked as a staff accountant for the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce. CYPN is a committee of the Chamber, and since I was the youngest professional on staff, I got to take over some of the duties to help run CYPN. I have been involved in CYPN for over four years.

How has being involved with CYPN helped you?

There are many benefits that I have reaped from CYPN, but some of the most significant ones were meeting local young professionals like me and making new friends. Also the CYPN networking events are a great stepping stone into networking with more experienced professionals. Plus, I learn a ton of useful information from the “Lunch & Learn” series that CYPN offers every month – topics ranging from analyzing your credit score to home buying to preparing your tax return. As you can see, CYPN is a great resource for professionals in the area, and my wish is that our message reaches all of them.

What's your favorite place to go in Concord?

Concord has many great places, but my favorite is White Park. That is where I first took my daughter for a walk in the stroller, then to play in the beautiful playground, then to slide during winter, and lately I love watching her ride her bike there.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I like attending local networking events organized by the Chamber and CYPN, I enjoy catching up with friends over drinks, but most of all, I love to go out dancing!

What has been your favorite CYPN event so far?

Over the past four years I've attended many CYPN events, so it's hard to pick one. This month at the nonprofit networking event, I really enjoyed getting to know some of the local nonprofit organizations and the great people behind them who dedicate their time and efforts to do such good things in our community.

When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I really wanted to be dancer, and I never thought that I would be an accountant. Life is unpredictable! Even though I didn't become a professional dancer, I have some great moves on the dance floor! But most importantly, I love what I do and the great company I work for.

Tell us three facts about yourself.

I have only lived in the United States for 11 years. I was born and raised in Moldova, located in Eastern Europe.

I am fluent in five languages: Romanian, English, Russian, Spanish and French.

I love to cook, and my secret wish is to become a chef one day. I am up to a good start – I already got some people addicted to my pierogies (an Eastern European favorite similar to ravioli).

The Concord Young Professionals Network is a professional and personal development initiative created by the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce just over five years ago. Free events are held on the third Wednesday of every month at various Concord venues, where hundreds of young professionals of all ages can interact socially, build a network of contacts, exchange ideas and have fun.
