City Briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell dons his snappiest bomber jacket and goggles, refuels the old Cessna and takes to the skies to twirl out a city memo in puffy skywriting. We were perched comfortably on terra firma, taking down the entire smoky thing.

Rock the vote

Polls open Nov. 8

On Nov. 8, residents will have the opportunity to vote for members of city council, specifically mayor, at-large councilors and ward councilors, Aspell writes. Residents will also have the opportunity to vote for ward officials and members of the Concord School Board. Charter amendment questions for the city of Concord, as well as the board of education, will also be on the ballot for residents to vote on. There are four municipal races. Incumbent Mayor Jim Bouley has a challenger this year in John Cook; in Ward 1, Adam Czarkowski has filed to run against incumbent Elizabeth Blanchard; the Ward 2 council seat, which will be vacated by William Stetson, has two candidates vying for office – Allan Herschlag and Jennifer Kretovic; and in Ward 3, Kris MacNeil has filed to run against incumbent Jan McClure.

Candidates have been given the opportunity to submit information about themselves for posting on the city's website. Those candidate profiles received are available for review at concordnh.gov under the “City Highlights” section or on the city clerk's office elections page.

Voice your opinion

All are invited to public forums to share their ideas and opinions on the future reuse of the Walker and Eastman school buildings, Aspell writes. The Walker School forum will be held Oct. 4 at Walker School, and the Eastman School forum will be held Oct. 6 at Eastman School, both from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The Dewey School building now houses the Concord School District offices. Is there a better use for this property? A public forum will be held Oct. 11 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Dewey School building.

sick opportunity

Get your flu shot

On Oct. 6, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, the Parks and Recreation Department, along with the Centennial Senior Center, will host a flu shot clinic at the West Street Ward House, Aspell writes. The flu shots will be administered by the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association. This clinic is open to all.

Curb your enthusiasm

More work ahead

The vertical granite street curbing was successfully installed on North State Street last week, and drainage pipe work began in the vicinity of the state prison, Aspell writes. This week, the contractor will continue storm sewer pipe replacement along North State Street, from the state prison to the city's combined operations and maintenance facility. Additionally, the masonry subcontractor will be on-site raising utility castings. This work will occur in North State Street, from Dolan Street to the maintenance facility. One-lane traffic conditions will be in place at both locations and delays are to be expected. We thank the public for their continued patience during construction delays.
