Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell shoots himself out of a cannon onto our doorstep and warbles the latest happenings in our fair capital in an ear-piercing falsetto. Lucky for you, we transcribed it.
Construction delays on North State Street
will it ever end?
Thanks a lot, RAIN. You're really ruining everything these days, including progress on Route 3 construction. Aspell breaks the bad news to us gently:
“Due to inclement weather conditions this past week, the planned base paving of North State Street has been postponed until next week,” Aspell lamented, shaking his head. “The contractor plans to begin fine grading the road on Monday toward a planned mid-week paving operation. . . . This work will occur between Hillcrest Avenue and Dolan Street.”
And, unless you're someone who loves sitting in traffic and wasting gas, Aspell reminded drivers to find alternate routes if possible.

Explosions in the sky
The city's annual fireworks celebration will be held on – you guessed it – the Fourth of July. In addition to loud, colorful matter being blown to smithereens over your head at Memorial Field, you can expect a baseball game, vendors and music from 105.5 JYY, all starting at 5 p.m.
At 8 p.m., get out your spectator's glasses and watch the Nevers' Band perform old-timey favorites. The fireworks get underway at dusk, about 9:15 p.m.
That's all for Tom this week. Be sure to check out next week's Insider for more of his wacky antics and informative tidbits.
