Take a walk by Time 4 Change Embroidery and you might catch the president and CEO cuddled up together sleeping in the display window. Maybe you'll even catch the president licking the CEO clean! This might be unprofessional or even grounds for a lawsuit at most businesses, but at Time 4 Change it's par for the course. You see, the “president” and “CEO” are actually manager Mary Hewitt's two adorable dogs, Lily and Lindsey. The doggie duo is most often found lounging in the display window, enticing passers-by with their cuteness.
“They're great for advertising,” Hewitt said. Not hard to believe coming from someone with Lindsey embroidered on her shirt. She's been operating Time 4 Change on Pleasant Street for 12 years now, and she says that her dogs have been a part of the business since Day One.
“People come to see the dogs and not me,” Hewitt said. “If I had a dollar for every time someone stopped to look at them or took a picture, I could retire.”
She said the dogs are a big part of the neighborhood, and that people make it a regular routine to stop by and say hello.
“There are some professional people in this neighborhood with high-stress jobs,” Hewitt said. “They stop by to see the dogs just to get that five-minute deep breath.”
Board members, advertising models and therapy dogs, the two little terriers sure wear a lot of hats. They are also known to sport bandannas, doggie t-shirts, or any of the other dog-centric articles that one can pick up at Time 4 Change. But don't let the puppies' constant presence dog you, Time 4 Change caters to a mostly human clientele.
The pups have attained a virtual movie star status around Concord, with a rabid fanbase.
“They have their own following,” Hewitt said. “I can't go anywhere with them and not be recognized.”
Say hi to the two spokespuppies next time you're in the neighborhood. It's not every day you get to shake a celebrity's paw.
