Learning a second language isn’t easy, but for Concord High students who come here from other countries, it’s a necessity.
That’s where the school’s ELL programs come in handy. ELL literally means “English language learners.” The program provides a judgment-free place where refugees from other countries can come and learn the English language and other subjects taught at Concord High School like math, world language, science, economics, business and electives.
Tara Kesig, an ELL tutor at the school, said the program is a good tool for helping students reach their full potential.
“The kids at the ELL program make me laugh every day, they give me the inspiration to do better in life. They are a great group of kids who have come a long way to overcome the struggles they have had to deal with before coming to America,” Kesig said. “They all have a bright future ahead of them and the ELL program will always be here to support them.”
The program is a great opportunity for the students to gain a better understanding for English and opens a door to a wide variety of learners, all shapes, sizes and ethnicities.
Amber Das, who participates in the program, said she feels fortunate to be a part of it.
“Concord is a great place, and so is Concord High,” Das said. “The teachers are very nice to me and very understanding.”
Sunlia Das also attends Concord High and the ELL program and shed some light on the subject.
“Concord High is a great place for the program because the people are so nice,” she said. “The teachers in the program help us understand the English language and they also help us with our other subjects, which is pretty cool.”
