It’s getting hot in here
Last week’s Insider was rather steamy. In case you forgot, our center spread featured the hunkiest hunks of Concord. Thanks to City Manager Tom Aspell’s weekly memo, Concord just got hotter. So hot, it’s on fire.
Tom wrote that the New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game is planning a prescribed fire for this weekend at the Concord Muncipal Airport. Approximately 4.5 acres of understory in the woodland will be burned.
“The understory was cut this spring to reduce fuel loading, and breaks have been established around the perimeter of the unit for containment,” he informed us. “This burn is being scheduled to coincide with a wild land fire training class, providing an opportunity for firefighters to complete their field training component.”
Duprey Center update
Burning up stuff isn’t quite as exciting as what Tom had to say next: Construction at the Duprey Center is proceeding smoothly with the contractor placing sheeting along South Main Street.
Yes, you read that right. Construction is going smoothly.
Utility companies have begun relocation work on Theatre Street and Storrs Street, Tom wrote. With the storm water management system in place in the Storrs Street parking lot, the contractor is now placing select materials in preparation for paving, he added.
We can’t wait for the next phase of the project. We love watching pavement dry!
Drain line liners
Tom wrote that drain line liners (say that 10 times fast) will be installed on Allison, Pillsbury and Humphrey streets this week. Work will begin at 7 a.m. each day and will go into the evening.
There will be equipment at various manholes on the streets, Tom wrote. Also, the contractor will be using steam and hot water to cure the liners.
Tom ended this news with the following ominous remark: Affected residents will be notified.
Shimmying in Concord
Please, Tom, don’t give us more construction news, we said with fingers crossed.
Pike Industries will start a shim and overlay project the week of Aug. 30, Tom wrote.
Dang it.
Expect shimming in the following areas: Airport Road from Mulberry Street to Old Suncook Road, Terrill Park Drive, Industrial Park Drive, Broadway from Humphrey to South Main Street, Pillsbury Street, High Street and Community Drive.
