Hidy ho, readers, and thanks for picking up our issue devoted to Penacook, that rugged little village in northwest Concord.
Why did we devote an entire issue to Penacook? The Insider featured the ol' P-cook in a 2007 issue, but we felt it was time to take another look at Concord's closest brethren for a few reasons:
For starters, we're kind of a sucker for old mill towns. We're intrigued by their history. We find beauty in their dilapidated structures, vacant storefronts and faded brick facades. We're like those women who fall in love with men who are a little rough around the edges, thinking we can fix them up if they only live up to their potential.
We happen to think P-town's got a lot of potential and is going places in the future. With a little TLC, a couple bars and restaurants, and maybe an entertainment venue, Penacook could be a happening place. The Penacook Village Association was established in 2008 with a mission to enhance the quality of life through civic activities and by fostering economic growth while protecting the town's historic character. The introduction of a farmers market in town this year is a great step.
Here, you can read about the things we love about Penacook in its current state. If we missed something awesome about the village, let us know. We don't write about the big P as much as we should, but, with your help, that's something we'd like to change. Our name may be The Concord Insider, but we're equally smitten with you, Penacook.
