Movie review: 'A Town Called Panic'

Some of you might know that I am a sucker for animation, so naturally I had to see this movie and discover what made the television series popular enough to prompt the making of a film. “A Town Called Panic” is a full-length stop-motion animated feature from France. It’s a children’s movie, designed to look as if were made by children. If you don’t mind English subtitles, you’ll enjoy yourself.

The story follows three figurines named Cowboy, Indian and Horse who live in a small village that looks like a kindergarten class painting. It’s Horse’s birthday, and Cowboy and Indian have forgotten to get him a gift. Their plan to fix the situation backfires. What follows is a series of silly mishaps and adventures.

All in all, this was an original, clever and hysterical film. The comedic timing was perfect and the idea of using figurines as the main cast was laugh-out-loud funny. My only real complaint was that it was too short.

I would love to see a sequel or possibly another movie from this team. I’d “Go with my friends” to this movie any day. “A Town Called Panic” is playing at the Red River Theatres March 12 to 18 so take your friends and family to see this wild and bumpy ride.

The Chris Dell'Isola rating system:

I’d stand in line on Christmas Day = A Masterpiece
I’d go with my friends = Just a lot of fun
I’d bring a date = Good but not great
Only if my mother made me take my little sister = I’ve seen better
I’d rather see a chick flick with my mother = Rubbish
