Mocha, meet raspberry

The holidays are over, and that means our off-beat gift guide series is over too. Fret not because we have a brand-spankin’ new series to get you through January’s bitter weather.
For the next few issues, we’ll feature a hot beverage of the week. Why a hot beverage, you ask? Well, because it’s cold out and we want an excuse to leave our warm and cozy cubicle to brave the winter elements. Or something.

We found our first beverage while killing time, er, we mean “doing research” at Borders Bookstore, 76 Fort Eddy Road. After putting a poor barista on the spot and asking her what she recommended, we ended up with a small raspberry mocha ($3.65).

Although it’s not on the menu, our new best friend – the barista – promised we could order it at anytime and no one would look at us like we were crazy. Actually, you can add any flavor shot the café has in stock to your mocha (we bet coconut could be tasty), but our coffee-making pal insisted that the mocha was best with raspberry.

Impressed with her confidence, we gave it a whirl and we’re glad we did. Unlike mochas we’ve had in the past, this one wasn’t too sticky sweet (even with the additional raspberry flavoring), so we could go back to work without a stomachache.

Although you’re welcome to order a medium or large, we were content with the small when it came to this dessert-like beverage.

So, the next time you’re perusing Borders’ bookshelves, stop by the café and don’t be timid about ordering off the menu or harassing a friendly-looking barista to choose a beverage for you.
