Dear Elders, Who or what deserves to be on the next postage stamp?
– Self-stamped
Roioli Schweiker
Dear Self-Stamped:
A woman from history but not one who is very well known. The “famous women” always seem to be the same ones.
Jan Stickler
Dear Self-Stamped,
I think a snail. We have had almost every other conceivable insect, animal and person. Since the advent of electronic mail, the postal service has been dubbed “snail mail.” Why not a stamp to commemorate it?
Casper Kranenburg
Dear Self,
Unfortunately, laws governing the design of new stamps forbid people who are still living. If this were not the case or if the laws change, the only person who deserves to be on a postage stamp is our Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson. He should be honored for his fighting for equality for gay and lesbian people to celebrate their love for one another with family and friends gathered around, pledging their support for the faithful, monogamous, lifelong-intentioned, holy vows they now can take in New Hampshire.
Bill Twibill
Dear Canceled,
The one and only Leroy Anderson, one of America’s almost forgotten composers and music arrangers who gave us so many wonderful musical beauties, including “Blue Tango,” “Sleigh Ride,” “Belle of the Ball,” “A Christmas Festival,” “The Syncopated Clock” and many more, along with several piano concertos and the Broadway show “Goldilocks.”
Please Google him and enjoy his wonderful music.
Steve Leavenworth
Dear Self-Stamped,
I vote for Thomas Paine. If you read his pamplet “Common Sense,” you will see why.
