Rundlett Middle School staff and students are participating in a community building unit using the current best selling book, “Three Cups of Tea” by Greg Mortenson, in which he tells the story of his personal journey of tolerance, empathy and compassion for the children of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Mortenson's most recent publication is the engaging and heartwarming story written for the young reader. This unique retelling will provide an enriching reading experience to our students at Rundlett.
We hope that you would be willing to assist us in purchasing some of the materials needed in order for each child and staff member at Rundlett to have access to it. We are not asking for a monetary donation and are in fact unable to accept money for this project. You may purchase books through Gibson's Bookstore on Main Street, and they will see that the donated texts get to our school.
Rundlett Middle School encourages each of its students to become responsible world citizens. To that end, we hope that this project will create community leaders dedicated to understanding and improving cultural persity both here at school and as they become part of the adult community. Other activities that are planned to coincide with Rundlett's reading of “Three Cups of Tea” include a student-led book club, Cultural Diversity Night and participation in Pennies for Peace, a program started by school children in 1995 to collect pennies for the educational needs of children in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
On behalf of Rundlett Middle School, thank you for your time and anticipated support of this important activity.
