Free job seminar
Everyone’s talking about city manager Tom Aspell’s weekly memo this week. And by everyone we mean us.
T-Spell wanted to get the word out that the Concord Public Library will be hosting a free job seminar on Sept. 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the library auditorium. The seminar will be presented by Susan Henry, a certified career development adviser. Henry will cover the job market, resumes, cover letters, creating a personal network and online search engines.
Attendees are invited to bring their resumes for review (time permitting). Tom also added that the 90-minute seminar is sponsored by the Concord Public Library Foundation. So now you know whom to thank when you land your dream job.
Game on
Want to play soccer?
Tom wrote that players are still needed for the Recreation Deparment’s co-ed adult soccer league, which will be held on Sundays at Keach Park. Interested players should call 225-8690 or visit onconcord.com/recreation.
We’re in if you’re in, Tom.
Oh boy!
Traffic talk
A memo from Tom wouldn’t be complete without letting us all know how often we’re going to be stuck in traffic this week.
“Next week, the contractor will resume new drainage construction on North State Street, between Roger Avenue and Hutchins Street. During this phase, single lane closures and delays are to be expected throughout the remainder of pipe installation,” Tom wrote. “The traffic signal subcontractor has been on site and has begun installation of the new signal bases and hardware at both the Fisherville Road at Bog Road and North State Street at Sewalls Falls Road intersections.”
Wait . . . there’s more!
“As major construction efforts on the Fisherville Road corridor are winding down, residents and commuters can expect road crews to begin raising manhole and catch basin castings to their finished elevations in preparation for the placement of the final wearing course pavement,” Tom said. “With the continued cooperation of the weather, we are expecting to finish pave Fisherville Road, from the northern limit of Phase I to the Aranco Oil building in late September/early October. Details will firm up as we move closer to the end of this month.”
So, what he’s really saying is: Blah, blah, blah, Fisherville Road, blah blah blah traffic will continue, so deal with it.
Thanks . . .
for the ‘facelift’
“Thanks to the inmate work program at the Merrimack County Correctional Facility in Boscawen, the water treatment plant is getting a long overdue facelift,” Tom wrote. “Workers have been removing vegetation from around the plant’s 4.7 million-gallon clear well, along with other areas around the plant.”
Hooray!
