July 17: A nap at Hood
At approximately 9:24 p.m. Officer Joshua Levasseur was dispatched to the HP Hood plant on North State Street for the report of a suspicious person.
According to Levasseur's report, a caller had seen a man wearing white shorts on the west side of N. State Street who crossed the street and jumped the fence into the Hood plant. Sgt. Ranee Boyd also responded to the call and took a position on the south side of the Hood property, Levasseur wrote.
Levasseur wrote that as he entered the Hood property, Boyd advised him that she could see a person lying under a tractor trailer. At this point, Boyd and Levasseur went over to the trailer and made contact with Bobby Hensley, 43, of Manchester.
Hensley told the officers that he had taken a bus to Concord to visit his sister who lives on Fisherville Road. Hensley said that he was walking to her house from the bus station and he started to get tired, so he went into the woods across from the Hood plant to sleep. As he was resting, it began to rain and he said that he needed some cover and saw that the tractor trailers were across the street. He told the officers that his sole purpose was to get out of the rain.
Levasseur wrote that while speaking to Hensley, Hensley could not remember his sister's address or phone number. Levasseur also wrote that Hensley was unsteady on his feet, smelled of alcohol and had slow and slurred speech.
According to the report, when Levasseur asked Hensley if he had anything to drink that night, he stated “a couple of beers.”
Levasseur placed Hensley under arrest for prowling. A personal recognizance bail was set for $500. Hensley is due in court Aug. 18.
