Here's an update from The Green Team, a group of teens spending their summer making Concord a more beautify place. This for the week of July 6-10.
– Met with city arborist Scott Carlson. He showed us proper tree pruning technique, and we pruned trees on School Street so that sidewalks were clear and street signs were more visible.
– Made posters and brainstormed ideas for our Market Days booth.
– Met with Wildlife Education Coordinator Marilyn Wyzga from New Hampshire Fish and Game. She showed us around the Wildlife Discovery area at Fish and Game headquarters, and we learned how her department tries to maintain a balance in the numbers of wildlife. Also, we weeded and pruned their habitat demonstration area and planted native species that would encourage wildlife to visit.
– Took a tour of Merrimack Valley High School's wood chipper and learned that not only is this form of heating environmentally good, it is also cost effective. The wood chipper not only heats the school, but it is also integrated into the curriculum in science and engineering classes
