The NHTI library is featuring exhibits by four local artists during the month of June.
Visually challenged artist Richard Lee Clark of Loudon presents his varied artworks, mostly in the form of prints. Dick is progressively losing his sight to retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye disease that renders the retina useless over time. “I tell people I can see,” he states, “but in truth, RP is rapidly claiming what sight I do still own.”
Photography also plays an integral role in Dick's line of note cards. Wife Linda is also a photo buff. “She's basically my only competition,” quips Dick.
Beth Ordway of Hampton, who works in NHTI's bursar's office, is mounting her first-ever exhibit of photography at the college. “I have no specific training,” she says. “I take pictures for personal enjoyment. My favorite things to photograph are close-up pictures of flowers and children – especially my friends' children. I always take tons of pictures at friends' weddings, and often am told that they enjoyed several pictures/angles that the 'professional' photographer didn't get.”
If anyone is interested in buying any of her pictures, a percentage of the sale price will go to “my wonderful Sunday school class of 2- to 4-year-olds.”
Sitaji Devi is a psychic and a Reiki master for whom painting is as much a spiritual exercise as an artistic endeavor. “I would describe my style of painting as expressive,” she writes. “Through the process of painting I am able express my emotional nature. Art has been a way for me to explore the depths of my subconscious mind, finding out who I am and how I feel about life.”
