The Greater Concord Area Task Force Against Racism and Intolerance will hold its fourth annual multicultural festival, Celebrating Our Multicultural Community, on June 20. The purpose of the event is to celebrate, welcome and raise awareness of newcomers in the community and to inspire neighborly acceptance, assistance and the appreciation of cultural persity within greater Concord and beyond. The festival will be held on the State House lawn and plaza in downtown Concord on June 20, from 5-8:30 p.m. (rain location is across the street at the atrium in Eagle Square). Admission is free.
The event will feature a variety of live and recorded music from around the world, hosted by DJ Franklyn Rosario and announcer Doris Ballard, with live performances including: Scottish bagpipe music at 5:30 p.m, Rwandan dancers at 6:30 p.m. and Black Bear Moon African Music at 7:30 p.m.
Activities and crafts related to persity are planned for children, including a special project by the Kimball-Jenkins School of Art. Booths and exhibits will share information and offer art, books and other items for sale, including items from Bhutan, Rwanda, Sudan, Scotland, Greece, Egypt, Korea, China, Dominican Republic, India, the Mediterranean, Native American Indian and many more. Food from many countries will be served. Special events include a mayor's proclamation, learning Hispanic dances and contributing to a world map that will be presented to the city.
A raffle will be held to offset the costs of the festival, featuring a quilt made by Dancing Crane Quilting.
