There's still a lot the Recyclinator doesn't know. This became clear at the recycling education meetings held across Concord on May 16. A gentleman at the Penacook meeting asked if the foil-like seals topping yogurt containers could be recycled. Well, this stumped me, so I punted the question to my secret information source at Concord's General Services Department. I was assured that once rinsed, they could be recycled.
Moving on to East Concord, a woman at that meeting pointed out that the screw-on lids from glass jars can go in the recycling bin. Examples of this would be jar lids from applesauce, pickles, salsa, etc. With the exception of metal lids on cans, I just tossed lids from containers indiscriminately. I will now pay more attention. Remember, I'm referring to metal lids, not plastic. As a general rule, unless plastic caps or lids are stamped with Nos. 1 through 7, toss them out.
Thank you to everyone who attended a recycling meeting!
