April has come and gone and you know what that means: Dog owners who have not licensed their dogs are late. Of 5,300 dogs in the city, only 1,800 have been licensed to date. That’s 3,500 hundred dogs that are not yet licensed. You know who you are, and we need your help.
Beginning June 1, a late fee of $1 per month per dog is assessed. In July, in accordance with RSA 466:13, we begin sending out civil forfeiture fines of $25 for each unlicensed dog within the city. Trust us, we do not like sending out fines for unlicensed dogs any more than you like receiving them. So, if you are a dog owner who has not yet licensed your dog, please stop by or drop a check in the mail to license Fido. Please also remind a neighbor or friend along the way to do the same.
Hey, every year our dog(s) look forward to receiving their new “jewelry,” which, by the way, is a lovely green shield that complements most fur and collar colors.
The licensing fees are: $10 for non-spayed or non-neutered dogs; $7.50 for spayed or neutered dogs; $7.50 for dogs under 8 months old; $2 for the first dog for owners age 65 and over (regular fee for any additional dogs); $20 for five or more dogs of the same owner.
Remember, if you license your dogs in May, you pay no additional late fees. Beginning in June, that is not the case.
If you licensed a dog in the great City of Concord last year and have relocated outside of Concord or Penacook or no longer have your pets, please contact the City Clerk’s Office by phone at 225-8500 or via e-mail at cityclerk@onconcord.com so that we may update our records. This will save tax dollars on certified postage expenses when the city begins the issuance of the $25 civil forfeitures in July for unlicensed dogs.
The City Clerk’s Office is located at 41 Green St. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
We thank you in advance for taking the time now to license your dogs.
