Hey, thanks!
Easter volunteers
In this week’s memo from City Manager Tom Aspell, we learn of some good-deedery from the folks who attend the Recreation Department’s Senior Program. With some help from Colette Farland-Vogt and members of the Horseshoe Pond Place exercise program, seniors in attendance helped stuff over 3,500 Easter eggs with candy for the upcoming citywide Easter egg hunts. That was awfully nice of you, guys! The kids in town thank you.
Speaking of The Rec
New programs
With great excitement, Tom writes that the Recreation Department’s new programs have been an instant hit. He writes, “The first and second grade spring soccer league and Tae Kwon Do classes have been so successful that classes are already full. Other new programs that are currently being offered are: Adult spring soccer, adult co-ed softball and a spring soccer league for boys and girls in third and fourth grade.”
Cool! If you’d like more information on these program and others, visit onconcord.com/ recreation.
Even more Rec news!
A very nice donation
According to Tom, who has plenty of good news in this week’s memo, the Recreation Department received a $10,000 donation from the American Legion Post 21 for new baseball dugouts at Rollins Park. The do-gooders just keep coming out of the woodwork! Must be the nice weather.
Tom adds that the General Services Department will begin working on the new dugouts next week, and will be in place by the beginning of May.
The Rec Department could also use some financial support for dugouts at Rolfe Park and Memorial Field, says Tom. Anyone interested in donating should call Recreation Director David Gill at 225-8690.
Help for emergencies
Ambulance update
According to Tom’s memo, “Concord Hospital installed new equipment on the city’s three ambulances to enhance their ability to transmit 12 lead EKG’s to the emergency department.” We’re not entirely sure what that means, but apparently it came in handy – Tom continues, “Within an hour of the installation, paramedics responded to a call and used the new equipment. This allowed the patient to arrive in the cardiac catheterization lab much more quickly. Time is critical to a heart attack victim in preventing sudden death and limiting heart muscle damage.” Oh, okay. We get it now. . . . Sort of.
