Ask the Tweens: Substitute teachers

Jacob Bemis
It’s not that we’re bad to substitutes. It’s just that people think that they can do whatever they want because the sub is not the teacher and they don’t know the rules. Substitutes are fun because some of them do what the other teachers don’t do normally, like tell jokes. They let us play games and don’t give us a lot of homework, and they’re not as uptight.
From the J-man

Dear Tweens, Why do you act up so much when there is a substitute? Don’t you think your full-time teacher will find out? Or do you just think you can get away with more?
Signed,
A substitute teacher

Kassi Happenny
Well, I don’t act up for substitutes because I know that I will get in trouble. I do think that my full-time teacher would find out if I was acting up for a substitute, because usually the subs write names down or write notes to the teachers. I think that when people act up for subs, I feel bad for that substitutes because they have to deal with that kid.
Sincerely,
Kassi Happenny

Dear Concord Insider,
It’s Shampoo, aka Seimou. I think kids act up for a sub because they don’t like change because the sub doesn’t know what is going on and what you’re working on in school. Also, some subs are really mean. Some kids like their teacher a lot and hate it when she’s not at school. I hate it when my language art teacher, Mrs. Heath, is sick. I hate it when all my teachers are sick because I hate changes at school.
Sincerely,
Seimou Smith

Dear Readers,
One reason we act up is because we feel we have power over the sub because they’re not there on a daily basis. They don’t know they daily routine.
Another reason we sorta-kinda act up would just be because it’s fun! Some kids, no matter what, do what they want. Every day, with or without a sub, there’s always at least one kid who has to act up! It’s part of middle school.
