Take that, Prohibition

On Dec. 5, 1933, New Hampshire finalized its ratification of the 21st Amendment, becoming the 13th state to formally repeal prohibition. Soon after, New Hampshire became one of only 18 “control” states, establishing the New Hampshire Liquor Commission to regulate the sale of alcohol.

To commemorate its 75th anniversary, the New Hampshire Liquor Commission is holding a year-long celebration in 2009, including special events and promotions.

The Liquor Commission, in collaboration with New Hampshire-based White Rock Distillers, has created a special offering of vodkas under the brand name of “Tenure.” In addition, a number of special sales and events are planned throughout the year, including Wine Week, which began on Jan. 23. Wine Week is 10 days of tastings, receptions and dinners all across New Hampshire. Festivities feature more than 35 vintners, wine experts and personalities
