The Concord Public Library owns audio books in cassette and compact disc. We currently purchase only CD format, but we also have more than 800 titles in cassette format. Altogether, we have more than 1,600 spoken word titles including classic fiction, mysteries, science fiction, best sellers, instructional, nonfiction titles and titles for children. Titles can be checked out for 28 days and cannot be renewed.
Cardholders can use this service to check out up to three titles at one time, download the titles to their PC computer and then listen to them or transfer the titles (Windows Media Audio format) to their MP3 player. Some of the titles are also burnable to CDs.
There are more than 2,100 titles available including biography, thrillers, children's literature, language instruction, young adult fiction and nonfiction. The vendor for this service has just started carrying a few titles in a new format that is compatible with the iPod players. At the present time the book service is not offering any of these titles to its users, but it hopes to in the future.
