Winter carnival is coming to town!

Yes, readers, it’s true! Winter Carnival, a long-standing Concord tradition, is almost here! In just a few days, you can skate and sled to your heart’s content. Before we get to the pertinent information, we should tell you that the photos you see here are from the 1895 edition of the Granite Monthly. They did a whole spread on Concord’s Winter Carnival tradition with lots of photos to document the proceedings. Our thanks to Sandi Lee at the Concord Public Library for scanning the pages for us!! Okay, back to our regularly scheduled program . . .

Winter Carnival (aka: a totally fun event), Saturday, Jan. 24, Inclement weather date Jan. 31, 1-4 p.m., White Park

Join the Concord Parks and Recreation Department and the Friends of White Park for some good old fashioned winter fun. Join us in kicking off the day with an intergenerational parade and opening ceremony with your friends and neighbors at 1 p.m. Bring your whistles, noisemakers, bells and flags as we kick off the party.

There will be ongoing activities such as scavenger hunts, cross country skiing, speed skating races and sledding contests, just to name a few. Come warm yourself by the bonfire while enjoying a tasty treat from one of the food vendors.

Skates will be available in the skate house where the whole family can warm up. (Skate rentals cost $2.) Please come join us for this fun, family community wide event!
