City Briefly

Exciting news, indeed!
Zoning news for you!
According to City Manager Tom Aspell’s weekly memo, the city’s zoning board heard three zoning relief cases at its Jan. 7 meeting. Chances are, you’re already on the edge of your seats with this news, but if you’re not, maybe a tantalizing look at those cases will help . . .
Case 58-08: “The board, by a unanimous vote, granted a request to construct a 25-by-24-foot garage addition, with living space above, for a single family residence requiring an area variance to permit a side setback of 6 feet where a side setback of 10 feet is required for premises located at 15 Holly St. and situated in a residential neighborhood district.”
Case 59-08: “The board, by a unanimous vote, tabled a request for a use variance to permit automotive repair, service and towing, excluding body work at 62 Hall St. in an opportunity corridor performance district, and advised the applicant that the board would like specific information about any particular tenant or group of tenants who will occupy the building before rendering a final decision.”
Case 60-08: “The board, by a unanimous vote, granted requests to subpide two non-conforming lots, with a combined area of 48 +/- acres, which had been merged under common ownership, to create two new reconfigured lots – one lot to be 2 acres in size with 200 feet of frontage along Lakeview Drive for an existing single-family home, and a second lot, approximately 46 acres in size with only 90 feet of frontage, that will be preserved for conservation land. The properties are located at 32 Lakeview Drive in a residential open space district within the Penacook Lake watershed protection district.”
Wasn’t that great, readers??

In promotion news:
Now a lieutenant
Says Aspell, who’s thus far managed to truly captivate you: “The Concord Fire Department is pleased to announce the promotion of Firefighter/Paramedic Merle DeWitt to the rank of lieutenant. Lt. DeWitt has been a member of the Concord Fire Department since July of 2001 and was most recently assigned to the Heights Station. He is a graduate of the paramedic program at the New Hampshire Technical Institute.”
Good job, Lt. DeWitt!

In skating news:
Skate already!
Aspell has more for you this week: “The Grounds Division of the General Services Department has been busy all week prepping skating areas throughout the city,” he says. “Of special note is the skating area at Merrill Park, adjacent to the basketball court, which is now ready for skaters. This area has been established to provide a safe skating area now that the pond is too unstable to maintain. Residents may also enjoy skating on the pond or playing hockey on the rink at White Park.”

Do you really need . . .
All that blood?
Beaver Meadow Golf Course will host a blood drive Jan. 28 from 2 to 7 p.m., says Aspell. Donors will receive a free pound of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and will be entered into a raffle to win two rounds of golf with cart.
Give blood, get golf and coffee. Not bad.

In case you missed it,
Don’t toss that tree!
Says Aspell, rather sternly: “Christmas trees are not picked up by the trash service. Residents may take trees to the Beaver Meadow Golf Course, the Transfer Station on Old Turnpike Road or White Farm on Clinton Street. This service will be available thru Saturday, Jan. 31. All deposited trees will be chipped into mulch.”
And thus concludes this week’s exciting edition of City Briefly. Go back to sleep, everyone.
